Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword (PC)

"A great time sink with many streamlining efforts over previous entries (and their expansions). This series is the king of Turn Based Strategy. Fun, different every time you set out to play and addictive - no wonder they included an onscreen clock!"

Final Fantasy (NES)

"There are few moments that stick with you from game to game, platform to platform. One of those moments familiar to many gamers is the moment they cross the bridge in Final Fantasy and the epic adventure truly begins."

Half-Life (PC)

"One of the first PC shooters I would schedule and dedicate playing time to in order to progress, as the story drove things ahead. Also enjoyed 'Opposing Force'."

Tetris (GB)

"Perhaps the game that got the most usage out of many Gameboy systems was the one that came with it. The original Tetris had challenging gameplay and fun multiplay. And the music never wore out its welcome."

Super Mario Land (GB)

"Great Mario game. One of the few Mario games I could consistently beat. As I recall, if you beat it twice in a row, there was a stage select trick so you could skip to your favorite stage (e.g. the Airplane stage or the Submarine stage...) ."

Final Fantasy Legend II (GB)

"An excellent, long involved rpg for the gameboy. With a party that could hold humans, robots mutants or monsters, great music, a decent plot and the classic Final Fantasy gameplay seen on the NES and SNES, it was a very good game."

BioShock (X360)

"I'll never view a mini golf green the same again."

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (X360)

Characters:

Mithrandir, — Stealth character; Listener of the Dark Brotherhood, Master of the Fighters Guild, Champion of Cyrodiil, Master of the Thieves Guild and owner of the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal.

Half-Life 2 (PC)

"Shamefully, played more multi-player on the PC than I did single player. Enjoying it now as part of "The Orange Box". Great story, great graphics, still tough."

Characters:

Gordon Freeman, — Who else would I be? Adrian Sheppard?

Wolfenstein 3D Classic (IPHONE)

"Once you're used to the controls, this port of the classic game plays really well - I can see folks getting callouses from too much game play! All the game play changes made to this classic are minor and fit the platform well."

PuzzleQuest Chapter 1 (IPHONE)

"A fun puzzle game with bright graphics and easy to grasp game mechanics. The penalty for an incorrect move isn't forgiving given the iPhone's small touch area, but that's a minor complaint against an overall good game."

Dungeon Siege II (PC)

"Good sequel. Easy to drop back into it and run through the single player campaign."

Dungeon Siege I (PC)

"Easy game to get into, nice looking effects and the mostly seamless world made this a fun romp."

Street Fighter II': Special Champion Edition (GEN)

"We bought two six-button controllers specifically for this game, and they made it worthwhile. The game play was exactly what you'd expect and the addition of the playable boss characters meant that the SNES version got dusty pretty quickly."

Gargoyle's Quest (GB)

"Kind of an RPG, kind of a sidescrolling platformer, Gargoyle's Quest was a pretty neat game that spun out of the Ghouls & Ghosts series. Biggest drawback was the use of passwords to save your progress - it wasn't often one had a notepad and pen. "

Age Of Mythology (PC)

"Awesomely fun game; great with multiplayers. Love this kind of spinoff idea."

Age of Empires (PC)

"Great game. Excellent audio, good netplay."

Call of Duty 2 (X360)

"Finishing this on Veteran was tough, but hella fun."

Star Wars: Jedi Knight II -- Jedi Outcast (PC)

"You know that any Star Wars game with a cameo from Lando Calrissian is gonna be good. This was."

The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles (X360)

"Quirky expansion that was pretty fun."

F-1 Race (GB)

"A simplistic racer (none of the tracks were very hard), but when you were able to get four players together with the four player adapter module, it became a pretty fun game."

Unreal Tournament (PC)

"'bot support in multiplayer was one of the best things about this game."

Civilization IV (PC)

"Been playing email-based games for last few years. Did same in Civ III too before this one."

Quake 3 Arena (PC)

"If rumours of an XBLA port are true, I might get back into this. Started playing with the beta, loved it, got the last collector's edition in my local store."

Star Wars: Jedi Knight -- Dark Forces II (PC)

"This and the expansion (Mysteries of the Sith) were pretty decent. Huge maps, interesting puzzles and pretty good cutscenes made this a pretty sharp game for the time."

Gears of War (X360)

"FPS on rails; lot of good moments and fun co-op. The multi-player is a nice change of pace from more frenetic shooters."

Call of Duty: World at War (X360)

"Good game. Zombie mode is fun."

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (X360)

"That first level was an awesome intro, and who can forget the TV station? This game needs some DLC that's more missions and not just multiplayer maps - though the multiplayer is excellent too."

Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves (APL2)

"Perhaps the first RPG I ever played. Attacking enemies with your human, dwarf, elf or halfling triggered a rollicking set of noisy tones, and then came the pause to see if they "shuffled off this mortal coil". This game was tough (at the time)."

Dawn of War (PC)

"Miles away from previous, more tactical attempts to bring this to life, like Chaos Gate or Fire Warrior."

Nemesis (GB)

"Basically Gradius for Gameboy, Nemesis was a fun side scrolling shooter."

FaceBall 2000 (GB)

"An early first person (first happyface?) 3d shooter, this game was also a blast to get going with multiple players over the four player adapter."

Return to Castle Wolfenstein (PC)

"Good update of the original, with a decently fun singleplayer side and a pretty fun team multiplayer."

Doom 3 (PC)

"The audio diaries used here worked a lot like BioShock's; but focusing on progressing the 'current' story, and less on the overall back story. The universe was a bit more 'sterile' as a result."

Call of Duty 3 (X360)

"Pretty disappointed so many of the achievements focused on multiplayer - but the game itself was pretty good."

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (PC)

"Played a bit on PC, but really got into it on xbox360."

Characters:

Mithrandir, — Stealth character; Listener of the Dark Brotherhood, Master of the Fighters Guild, Champion of Cyrodiil, Master of the Thieves Guild and owner of the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal.

Beyond Castle Wolfenstein (APL2)

"A screen-by-screen (brick walls again) mission to avoid nazis (or bluff them with passes) while you worked your way through to planting a bomb. I never finished it; always tried to shoot my way through and things would end badly."

B.C.'s Quest for Tires (APL2)

"Bouncing along on your stone wheel - wait, what? This game was an odd side-scroller that had you jumping obstacles and ducking branches and stuff to rescue your girlfriend or something."

WWF Superstars (GB)

"Nothing like the tinny theme of your selected wrestler coming out of the Gameboy speaker."

Radar Mission (GB)

"Basically "Battleship" for Gameboy, with a few bells and whistles."

Project Gotham Racing 3 (X360)

"I'm awful at racing games, and this one confirmed it. It looks really nice though."

Project Sylpheed (X360)

"Not bad, though having to play through a bajillion times to get the achievements isn't so hot."

Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds (PC)

"Nice try, but the execution was a bit painful when it came to flying units. Still, had some decent multi-player battles."

Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball (SNES)

"Perhaps the worst sports game ever created, it was strangely addictive when playing a human opponent - the horribly slow jump shots, the shoves to opposing players at key moments, the inevitable 'all bill laimbeer' teams... Awful, awful game."

Olympic Decathlon (APL2)

"Pole vault - most difficult event ever?"

Cannonball Blitz (APL2)

"Sloped brick levels and ladders, work your way to the top of the level, dodging the soldier and the cannon balls. Cheerful music though."

Beer Run (APL2)

"Simple game where the goal was to avoid the enemies and climb ladders (or catch the elevator) to the top so you could get some more beer. Brick floors and plain ladders - a staple of the Apple][ programming community."

Apple Panic (APL2)

"Kinda like a poor man's Loderunner - you when up and down various brick/ladder combinations and dug aligned holes and tried to get the apples to fall in them so you could hit them with your shovel."

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation -- Hard Evidence (X360)

"Repetitive, bland point & click procedural. The actors pretty much phone in their voice work, there's a lot of repetition to solving each crime, back and forth between locales - the tv show sexed up CSI work - this brought it back down to earth."

Enchanted Arms (X360)

"A very linear RPG; no real side quests (except the "Holy Beast Shrine", which is really just a big dungeon. The first few hours are tough to get through due to some painful characterization, but the rest of the game isn't bad and has a standard feel."
